Doceniam w nim śmiałe i mocne wokale Katy oraz odejście od radiowego popu w stronę chłodnych, elektroniczno-dubstepowo-hip hopowych bitów. Wisienką na torcie jest tekst, w którym swego kochanka artystka porównała do przybysza z kosmosu.
“E.T.” na singlu ukazało się między “Firework” a “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), będąc najmniej komercyjnym utworem z ery “Teenage Dream”. Nie przeszkodziło to jednak wokalistce w zdobyciu kolejnego numeru 1 na amerykańskiej liście hitów.
