Zespół MGMT miał świetny start, kiedy przeszło dziesięć lat temu wylansował z pierwszej studyjnej płyty trzy hity: “Kids”, “Electric Feel” i “Time to Pretend”. Dobra passa szybko się skończyła, a na formacji postawiono krzyżyk. „Little Dark Age” było zupełnie nowym rozpoczęciem – i to złotej ery w karierze MGMT.
Tytułowa piosenka z albumu „Little Dark Age” była pierwszym singlem, jaki MGMT ujawnili. Jego premiera odbyła się w drugiej połowie 2017 roku, w czasie poprzedzającym Halloween. Jeśli więc szukacie kompozycji, która wprowadzić może w taki upiorny nastrój, Andrew VanWyngarden i Ben Goldwasser mają dla was propozycję najlepszą z najlepszych. „Little Dark Age” jest utworem łączącym wpływy indie rocka z synthpopem. Nad całością unosi się delikatny zapach gothic, a towarzyszące wyrazistemu, wibrującemu podkładowi wokale są niesamowicie puste, mechaniczne, zdehumanizowane.
Album „Little Dark Age” ukazał się na początku 2018 roku. Był ostatnim krążkiem, jaki MGMT nagrali pod skrzydłami Columbia Records. W grudniu 2019 roku duet opublikował nowy, świetny singiel „In the Afternoon”, który jest ich pierwszym dziełem stworzonym niezależnie, we własnej wytwórni. Dobra passa formacji trwa więc w najlepsze.
