Piosenka, jak sama zainteresowana zdradziła, powstała podczas prac nad albumem „Golden” (płyta ujrzała światło dzienne w 2018 roku), ale nie wpisała się w jego klimat. Nic dziwnego. Country-Kylie zastąpione zostało przez Disco-Kylie. To, co najbardziej podoba mi się w kompozycji „New York City”, to jej „zawieszenie” w czasie. Niby nówka, ale przypomina początki nowego tysiąclecia, kiedy australijska gwiazda prezentowała taneczny hit za hitem. Jest radośnie, jest słodko. Na nadchodzące lato jak znalazł.
Co ciekawe „New York City” znane było wcześniej uczestnikom ostatnich koncertów Kylie. Artystka połączyła fragmenty utworu z „Raining Glitter” i „On a Night Like This” podczas Golden Tour.
Kompilacja „Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection” w sprzedaży pojawi się 28 czerwca 2019 roku. Składać się będzie z dwóch dysków, na których znajdą się piosenki Kylie od początku kariery. Nie zabraknie więc takich utworów jak „In Your Eyes”, „2 Heart” i „Confide in Me”.
